The median rent in Salt Lake City fell by 0.5% over the course of July, and has now decreased by a total of 3.2% over the past 12 months, according to the August report from Apartment List.
The median rent in the city stands at $1,252, roughly the same as last month.
Salt Lake City rent growth in 2026 pacing below last year
Seven months into the year, rents in Salt Lake City have risen 1.4%.
This is a slower rate of growth compared to what the city was experiencing at this point last year: from January to July 2025 rents had increased 3.0%.
Salt Lake City rents are 13.4% lower than the metro-wide median
Across the Salt Lake City metro area, the median rent is $1,446 meaning that the median price in Salt Lake City proper ($1,252) is 13.4% lower than the price across the metro as a whole. Metro-wide annual rent growth stands at -2.2%, above the rate of rent growth within just the city.

Among them, South Jordan is currently the most expensive, with a median rent of $1,870. South Salt Lake is the metro’s most affordable city, with a median rent of $1,186. The metro’s fastest annual rent growth is occurring in Millcreek (1.2%) while the slowest is in West Valley City (-4.1%).
