Multifamily Housing Part of Freedom Plaza Development Plan In Provo

A development, including 170 units of multifamily housing, in Provo, Utah is planned for Freedom Plaza.

The development called Freedom Plaza, by PEG Development, will be located at 200 N. Freedom Blvd. in Provo and will contain not only office space and a hotel but also 170 units of multifamily housing, according to reports.

In addition to the multifamily housing, Freedom Plaza will include two six-story Class A office buildings each with about 125,350 square feet, and will be part of a 700,000-square-foot mixed-use development sitting on the 100 North and 200 North blocks.

The rest of the development will include the Hyatt Place hotel and a large 1,000 to 1,200 car parking structure.

“It will feed all of that block, help park the Convention Center guests and provide parking for downtown restaurants and retail,”  Cameron Gunter, CEO of PEG Development, told the Daily Herald.

“Freedom Plaza revitalizes an area that’s been deteriorating. It will create a vibe for that area, which has been rundown since Sears left,” Gunter told the newspaper.

The five-story 131-room hotel is currently under construction, and PEG Development is demolishing the old Sears and RC Willey buildings to its north.

Gunter plans to provide parking in that vacant area for the Utah Valley Convention Center as a stopgap until PEG can build the parking structure.

That structure and the first office building in Freedom Plaza are his top priorities, and he hopes to break ground on them in the next year.
