Colorado developer to build luxury apartments atop whole foods in Arizona

A new mixed-use project in Arizona will feature 286 luxury apartments on top of a Whole Foods Market 365 store near Arizona State University, according to a release.

The Forum Real Estate Group, based in Glendale, Colorado, is the developer of The Local  a luxury, multifamily development in the heart of downtown Tempe.

“Situated at the marquee intersection of University and Ash, adjacent to the Mill Shopping District, The Local is a celebration of authentic Tempe – the history, the culture, the music, the people,” according to a release.

The project broke ground at University Drive and Ash Avenue on July 11. Residents are expected to begin moving in by early 2019, according to azcentral.com. The Local will include one floor of parking for 365 market shoppers and two floors of parking for residents. The upper five levels will include 286 luxury apartments.

Luxury apartments from studio to three-bedroom

“The Local will feature sophisticated finishes and accents in a fresh, unexpected style – blending a little vintage inspiration with modern touches. Use of exposed concrete, distressed and rich woods, brick, living plant and art details will come together to create a warm, authentic, welcoming vibe with distinctive amenities,” according to the website. The Local will offer studio to three-bedroom apartments, averaging 739 square-feet per unit.

Occupying the ground floor will be the city’s only Whole Foods Market 365 store, offering an affordable and convenient shopping destination.

“Customers can look forward to unique, in-store venues with the “Friends of 365” program and the free 365 Rewards program to save even more. The design, technology and carefully-curated product selection of the Whole Foods Market 365 will provide a streamlined and modern experience for customers, making this a true neighborhood gathering spot,” according to the release.

“We are thrilled to announce that our region’s first Whole Foods Market 365 in Arizona store will be located in Tempe,” Patrick Bradley, president, Whole Foods Market Southern Pacific Region, said in the release. “Our 365 stores deliver the same quality that our customers have come to expect, but in a convenient and fun new format that provides exceptional value.”

Whole Foods opened a 365 concept store last year, its second in the nation, south of Portland in Lake Oswego, Oregon. The company also opened a new 365 store last year in Bellevue, Washington. The new store has taken over the space at Bellevue Square Mall that housed J.C. Penney for more than five decades
